From the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to International Relations at EDC Poul Erik Bech

After an international career of more than 20 years in leadership positions at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the EU, Anders Garly Andersen (56) has recently taken the first step on a new career path. He is transitioning from diplomacy to real estate. As a former ambassador, his focus on international work will continue as he has accepted a position as International Relations Manager at EDC International Poul Erik Bech, which is part of Denmark's largest real estate agency.

Anders Garly Andersen’s career includes a series of leadership positions abroad under the auspices of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the EU. Most recently, he served as the Deputy Head of Mission in the EU’s border mission in Libya, and prior to that, he held roles such as Deputy Chief of Mission and later Ambassador at Danish diplomatic missions in Thailand, Ethiopia and Mali.

He spent several years at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs at the Head Office, where he held a number of leadership positions in foreign and development policy, as well as working on internal organizational lines, including as head of the Office for Corporate Resources and Support. Therefore, he is making quite a career change.

” With my age and experience, it was time for me to start a new and different chapter in my career. I was afraid that if I went abroad again, it would be too late to make a career change to the private sector, which I have missed since I left a couple of decades ago. So, I was looking for the right challenge where I could use my international experience and network in a new field. I have found this challenge at EDC International Poul Erik Bech, and I am very much looking forward to starting in a new industry.”

As International Relations Manager at EDC Poul Erik Bech, Anders Garly Andersen will primarily focus on foreign clients with an interest in the Danish real estate market, Danish clients with significant commitments abroad, and public authorities such as ministries, agencies, regions, and municipalities across EDC’s entire range of services – from valuations and investments to capital markets.

Can see himself in the Position
In addition to Danish, Anders Garly Andersen also speaks English, French and Spanish at a negotiation level. He continues: “I accepted the challenge because of where I am in my life and because I could clearly see myself in the position. On the one hand, EDC Poul Erik Bech’s international department has extensive cooperation with foreign clients, partners and Danish companies seeking support abroad. At the same time, commercial property brokerage is a new and exciting field for me, with many opportunities for development, which I really appreciate. It is also inspiring to be part of a successful department that has grown significantly since it was established as an independent unit five years ago, specifically to serve foreign clients and Danish clients with activities abroad. ”

” This is an exciting area of growth and I look forward to contributing to its continued positive development in a company where the international dimension is becoming increasingly important. We are the only major brokerage to have established a dedicated international department. At the same time, I have wanted to return to Denmark and the private sector for some time. Here, the distance between thought and action is sometimes shorter, and my discussions with Poul Erik Bech and the head of the International Department, Helle Nielsen Ziersen, have convinced me of this.

“On a personal level, for the past three years, I have been operating alone in a high-risk area abroad, so it has also been important for me to return to Denmark and my family. In my professional life, whether abroad or at home, it has always been crucial to establish and develop the right relationships and networks quickly. I will naturally draw on those networks in the future and look forward to building new relationships in the real estate brokerage industry, which I find highly interesting and challenging. Ultimately, diplomacy and the commercial real estate industry share many similarities. Both rely on individuals collaborating to find solutions based on shared interests and dreams.

EDC International Poul Erik Bech offers comprehensive services to foreign investors, companies operating in Denmark, and Danish companies with international activities. EDC International has specialists in all property-related tasks, including leasing, tenant representation, investment, off-market transactions, property valuations, and research/analysis.
